Here are Rev. Marlene’s thoughts on this week’s message.
Marlene’s Rev. Notes:
“I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and your love toward all the Saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.” Ephesians 1:15-16
Wow, what a joy it is to remember each other in prayer! I love it when Paul says, “I never cease to give thanks for you.” The very idea fills him with thanksgiving. This is one of the first thoughts repeatedly underlined in the Pauline epistles. Is it the first thought that comes to our minds when we think of our Christian heritage? Do we take this blessing for granted? How do we exhibit a love toward all the Saints?
There is a thankful remembrance of our siblings in the beloved community, when we desire their good during intercessory prayer. We break through our own self-centeredness, becoming active agents of the Church toward a united society of praise. All for each and each for all; like the Musketeers!
We can only imagine what these words must have meant to a new convert. To enter into a place of communion, where they are remembered daily by a great body of believers, even by Paul, the founder of this congregation; or by Christians in distant Rome or Antioch. Creating a corporate strength, which is incomparable. A force springing from our mutual intercessory prayers.
Humankind yearns to be remembered; to escape our feelings of loneliness. We sometimes lament: “Oh, we forgot them. Somehow, they fell through the cracks.” Yet, we have built majestic tombs and huge pyramids in the bid to be remembered. Remembering is a part of the Church’s life blood. Remembrance is freely given to all; the humblest to the greatest. Isn’t that just like God?
