All are welcome to join us for service on Sunday, January 11th at 10 am. This is a communion service. There is Sunday School during the service and coffee and visiting afterwards.

We welcome Rev. Heather Koots as our appointed minister while we look for a permanent replacement. She will be with part time.

Here are Rev. Heather’s thoughts on her message for this Sunday.

From Heather Koots

The most recent edition of Vancouver School of Theology’s ‘Perspectives’ Publication is themed around the idea of building healthy communities of faith. ‘Marks of Flourishing Congregations’ is one article, along with ’What Makes us Church’.  These could not be more timely title as Sherwood Park United Church begins the search for new ministry leadership. This Community of Faith has many signs of health. Engaged members, amazing music, inclusivity, and programs for outreach and justice to name just a few. Yes, there are struggles as well. Such is the reality of many faith communities, as we try to navigate our way through a changing and bewildering society and world.

Jesus began his public ministry following his Baptism as told by Matthew 3:13-17.  He too faced uncertainty. He too must have wondered if he was making any difference…if his teaching would be welcomed or rejected. He believed in his mission; God’s mission to preach Good News and a new way of building a world that was just and righteous. And the moment Jesus came up out of the river, and the heavens opened up and he was called Beloved surely stayed with him throughout, surrounding him with strength and encouragement.

Sherwood Park Community of Faith is called to build on God’s dreams for creation. The next months will be a time of transition. As your interim minister, I urge us all to choose to embrace this time as an opportunity to build a clear direction and be bold.  We have much to offer a hurting world. And as we move forward let us also hear the words of God. “You are my Beloved”.
