Here are Rev. Heather’s thoughts on the upcoming reflection.
The writer of the letter Hebrews states that “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval….so that what is seen was made visible from things that are not visible.”
So often we want our faith to be rewarded by a life of smooth sailing, a life without struggle. When inevitably life does not turn out this way, we may wonder if having faith is worth it. Even more, we wonder whether having faith and taking risks such as standing up for justice, kindness and compassion in the name of faith is worth it. No one can answer this question for us, for it is a choice we each must make. However the writer of Hebrews reminds us of some of the great heroes of our faith through the generations all faced certain risks. And they made the choice that yes! Faith was worth the risk! How do we answer?
