All are invited to join us for service on Sunday, August 4 at 10 am.  There is no Sunday School during the summer, however, there is still coffee!

Here are Rev. Marlene’s thoughts on the up coming service.

Marlene’s Rev. Notes:

“Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together.” Ephesians 2:20

This week we are exploring “kindness through inclusion.” The passage chosen from Ephesians, is written to mainly the Gentile (non-Jewish outsiders) in Asia Minor toward the end of the 1st Century. The reading explores the unity between human and divine, as well as unity within the community itself.

The text poetically describes how Christ’s death on the cross reconciled Jews and Gentiles, “tearing down the wall they used to keep each other at a distance.” Historically, we can see this graphically embodied in the partition that separated non-Jews from the inner courts of the Jerusalem temple.

Yet, overcoming this division, Christ’s sacrifice brought peace, creating one body from two, in which “he used the apostles and the prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together.”

Still, while unity has been achieved, the people nevertheless need to be reminded to cherish their shared heritage, since Christ shared his message of peace with both communities and reconciled them both to God.
