Join us for Church and Sunday School, Sundays at 10 am.
Notes from Rev. Marlene
“Do good; seek justice” (Isaiah 1:17)
The theme for the 2023 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is taken from the words of the prophet, Isaiah, “Do good; seek justice.” It is a motif with relatable theological significance. This belief that we all belong and are members of the beloved community that both is and is becoming, fuels the work of social justice, and racial justice in particular, calling us to public witness and advocacy as co-creators with God in bringing into existence peace with justice in all creation.
Grounded in this text from Isaiah, one cannot help but meditate on the link between Christian unity and racial injustice, which is both individual, and systemic in our society. The marginalisation of people because of their race, culture or language, tears apart the fabric of the human community, and is the cause of disunity in our Christian community.
Christian unity needs to be strong and visible, so as to speak to how the Spirit creates unity out of the rich diversity of God’s creation and is the plan of God for the beloved community of God’s people.
This Sunday, we will take time for everyone to light a candle and pray for Christian unity. There will be tea lights up front, which you can light. Please consider bringing a picture or an object with you Sunday morning that represents unity to you; it can be anything that you choose. Family unity, national or world unity are some examples.
Let us all join our hearts together in prayer for Christian unity!
