Here are Rev. Heather’s thoughts on the upcoming service.
Hello friends,
Do you love a good mystery?
A novel or movie? Do you prefer to be able to figure out the ending early or to be kept guessing right up to the ‘big reveal’? I love reading mysteries and am always happy when the ending includes a big twist that I never saw coming.
What do mysteries and this Sunday have in common? Well, this week we acknowledge Trinity Sunday, a time when Christians reflect on the meaning of the Trinitarian nature of God…Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And is this concept ever mysterious! Truthfully, no one can adequately or clearly understand God’s three in one nature, although there are many who would like us to believe they do. But here’s the thing; why do we need to understand the Trinity in its fullest? How would being able to explain it lead us to live our faith differently? In honestly don’t think explaining all things of God in human words and understanding is even desirable. This could mean that God has no mystery or awe to share. No matter how hard we might try to put ourselves on a level playing field with our Creator, this will never come to be. And this, for me is something to be thankful for. We may know much however we will never know it all. And we do not need to!
