Event Details

All are welcome to join us for Sunday service on November 10th starting at 10 am.  We are led in worship this week by Rev. Dr. Donna Wilson.  Sunday school will run during the service and coffee and fellowship will follow the service.

Here are a few of Rev. Donna’s thoughts on the upcoming service.

Donna’s Rev. Notes

Remembrance Day is once again almost here. The longer that we move away from the reality of the Second World War the harder it is for us to hear firsthand the reality of those who served and survived.  Each year we have fewer veterans who can teach us about their experience. Soon we will have none.

We of course still have military people who are serving in conflict places of the world. We know that there are Canadians who are serving in the conflict in Ukraine as they fight for the sovereignty of that land. We have real time images of the genocide in Gaza, and we can be overwhelmed   by the images of the horror for Palestinian civilians as they try to survive death and destruction of their small strip of land. This might be the first time that we have access to see in real time what is happening in the West Bank, in Gaza, in Lebanon. We are told that there have never been so many human beings displaced around the world because of conflict and leadership who show no regard for their citizens.

That is our reality and why it is important for us to find ways to continue to teach the youngest Canadians about the meaning of sacrifice that many gave so we could all have the chance to live in peace. Both of our scriptures for this Sunday speak to us of the cost of sacrifices made. Ruth sacrifices because of her love for her mother-in-law and obeys Naomi’s instruction without reservation. Jesus’ teaching is clear that the pompous leader will be held accountable while the sacrifice made by the poor woman in upheld as greater than that of the rich man because she gave all she had.

We remember and we honour as we work for peace in our world.
