All are invited to join us for Sunday Service at 10 am on July 27th. There is no Sunday School, however there is coffee and visiting after the service. We hope that you can join us.
Here are Rev. Marlene’s Notes on the upcoming service.
Marlene’s Rev. Notes
“You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring Word of God.”
This week Peter’s Path looks at 1 Peter 1:13-25, which touches on the themes of holiness, reverence, the imperishable word, and our new life in Christ. Peter wrote his first letter to a group of believers who were enduring great persecution and difficult times. He wanted to point them to the hope they had in Christ – a hope they could focus on in the midst of their trials. In this next section of his letter, he continues to show his readers how they are to set their minds on this greater hope and walk in this new life that they have been given. He encourages them not to cling to their former ways or to material things of this world – which he knows are fleeting and soon pass away. Instead, they are to pursue a life of holiness, reverence toward God, and genuine love toward their fellow believers.
Life gets tangled. People mess up. You never outgrow the urge to look up and say, “Help!” Jesus had a way of appearing at such moments. Peter’s empty boat. Nicodemus’ empty heart. Matthew has a friend issue. A woman has a health issue. Look who shows up. Jesus, our next-door Saviour.
We have been trusted to “prepare our minds for action; discipline ourselves; and set all our hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring when he is revealed.” The Christian life involves action, intention, and obedience. We must not rely on those things that wither and fade but only on what God tells us in his Word. The way we live each day demonstrates how we value what Jesus has done for us. Life question: What evidence of new life in Christ can you see in yourself?
